This afternoon I went to the Palace/Embassy Barber shop, where one can get a decent haircut for just US$3. As I sat down in the waiting area, a young sergeant who was getting his hair cut suddenly exclaimed, "Sir, I've been reading your blog!"
"Really?" I could lamely say in amazement. "Yes," he said, "I recognize you from your picture. It's the only place where I've been able to figure out what's been going on. You're a good writer."
I thanked him and he went on to explain he had searched on Google for information regarding his deployment here and this blog had shown up in the results. It was my impression about seven people were reading this -- all of whom are related to me. I've got to start coming up with better material.

yeah, for a while there we were thinking you were part of the writer's guild strike... ha!
Rico-
i think more than 7 people are reading your blog. I've been reading since your posts from NIACT. As a Navy Mom I've found your information insightful and enjoyable. Keep up the good work. My son is doing an IA in Afghanistan at ISAF HQ.
Accdg to Rico's ClustrMap, he's got unique visitors from more than 7 global locations:
- Indonesia
- New Zealand (but no Aussies oddly)
- India
- South Africa
- Nigeria (gotten any emails about a wealthy potentate?)
- Egypt
- Iraq
- UAE + Qatar (and maybe Kuwait)
- Portugal
- France
- UK
- Italy
- Switzerland
- BeNeLux
- Germany
- Norway
- Sweden
- Finland
etc etc etc
But then again, could be just proxy-hits from more mundane locations.
Either way, you seem to have a very international reading audience :-)
Korpskanzler, thanks for posting the global data. The counter isn't working correctly from where I am. Might be a proxy thing too. Anyway, it's quite interesting to see where the traffic is coming from. I gotta think about the next post...
Hey Rico-
ClustrMap says it bases its data on IP addresses, so I suspect it's real (except for the various Goggle, Yahoo, etc. web crawlers in other areas, and folks that are serious about anonymizing the surfing).
Regardless, nice work, and keep it up.
We're thinking about you, and plan to have plenty of sand and a shovel ready for you when you get back ;-).
Rob
Even though I am one of those 7, probably more like 7000, and a relative by marriage, I read your work for the fascinating detail and unusual insights you always provide. We all, if I may presume to speak for your audience, relish your posts and check daily for the latest. This IS the book I said you needed to give us. By the way, I am touting your blog to the major radio shows on the Salem network. Their audience tends to be for winning this war and keeping the White House. Please keep taking the time from your busy schedule to keep us informed and entertained.
Love Tio
I wanted to say thank you to all the people who are reading Rico's blog--especially the military moms. (Rico is my husband.) Our 2-year-old son and I miss Rico very much but we are also very proud of him. It makes me happy to know there are other people out there reading it. It makes the world seem smaller and friendlier.
I think you have alot more than you bargained for...I have your site on my blogspot too. My mom reads it everyday as you are in the same place as my brother. I do hope you and everyone your with is doing well!
